Jorge De Hoyos
Nijinsky / Fauno
- 2019 -
Debussy's and Nijinsky's Prelude to the Afternoon of  Faun kept getting into my head the last weeks.

This character speaks to so many of the ideas and desires that have been brewing for this piece:
-in tune with nature
-allowing and following sexual desire
-letting the mischevious out
-Masculinity embodied
-A beautiful dancer in an "official" classical way...Nijinsky the famous ballet dancer...I'm putting this on myself like a costume
-there's a loneliness to the natural creature which I feel somehow
-a sexy body...I want to be in the pursuit of delectable things, and I want to also be that delectable thing (for an audience to consume me as spectators of my body)
-The iconic choreography provides an anchor for the piece at this state because there's nothing very written or clean or clear, but this choreography is hyper clear allowing for the space around it to be more in motion.

I had thoughts that I could hold down this classical choreography to different types of music played by Raqel and Icaro...a mixing of worlds. Maybe Raquel could even play this on piano...she could serve as the glue for the whole show with the piano...from Debussy to Brazilian jazz to John Cage style...

Ahmed was here today, and he proposed blendng Journey Walk material with Fauno material...so I would fade into the Nijinsky choreography eventually from the Journey Walk, and the music would shift as well.

It was so useful to have someone more regular on the outside who could propose an idea and make it happen with mixing the sound on my computer. In this way I could begin to see how world's can emerge and slide amongst themselves. I could begin to see possible relationships between things. Ways of bridging and joining materials...
